Used oil rules for businesses, explained

If your business generates used oil, federal rules govern how you store it, label it, handle spills and send it off site.

For most shops, fleets and facilities, the requirements are straightforward. Keep used oil in good tanks or containers, label them "Used Oil," clean up leaks and spills, and use a collector with an EPA identification number.

The short version

What your business needs to do with its used oil

You do not need an EPA identification number simply because your business generates used oil. You do need to keep the used oil in sound tanks or containers labeled "Used Oil," respond to leaks or spills and use a qualified collector when the oil leaves your site.

Every UES used oil pickup leaves you a record of the service date and the quantity collected.
